About the city and region
Ternopil is the city in the Western part of Ukraine, it is a political, administrative, economical and business center of the Ternopil region. It is a large city of the historical region of Halychyna. The city is located on the river Seret. The city is situated in the central part of the Western Ukraine, here important highways and rail roads are united.
Places of interest
One of the most ancient Ukrainian properties that are left till today is the Old Castle. In 1540 the Polish King Sigizmund I had conducted the agreement to the Krakov ruler Yan Amor Tarnovskiy for the establishment and owning of the land near it. The building of the stringhold on the bank of Seret river in the area Topilche lasted for 8 years.
Except the Old castle there is also an ancient church that was erected at the beginning of 16-th century on the basement of the ancient church, the history of which reaches the times of the Kyiv Rus. The real estate in Ukraine is presented as three-part church without any domes. The second church - of Jesus Christ birth, was started to being built on June, 15 1602 and was finished on August, 4 1608 under the supervising of the well-known stone master Leontiy.
In 1636 the wooden Monastyr (Uspennskaya) church was erected. Later, in 1836 on this place new church was built, that was located on the Mykulenetska part of the city. The property of this church was destroyed in 1962, in our times the citizens of the city have restored it.
The city has Airport Ternopil
The airport has the flights to Kyiv, Istanbul and Simferopol.
