About the city and region
Rivne is the city in the Western Ukraine. It is an administrative, industrial and cultural center of the Rivne region, as well as administrative center of the Rivne area. This city is an important transport hub having the International Airport with flights connections to some of the European cities.
The current evaluated population of the city is around 249,900 people.
During the times of Soviet Union the provincial town was transformed into a huge industrial centre of the whole republic. There were two large plants built - machine building plant and metal processing plant able to produce high-voltage apparatus, tractor spare parts and others, and chemical factory as well as a synthetic materials plant. Light industry, presented by a linen plant and a textile factroy, as well as food industry, presented by milk and meat factories and a vegetable preservation fabric have also received development. Additionally Rivne became a production centre for furniture and other building materials.
Places of interest
Being a very important and well-known among the Ukrainian cultural and art centre, Rivne possesses a pedagogical, and a hydro-engineering Universities, as well as a faculty of the Medical and musical as well as Automobile construction, textile, agricultural and cooperative polytechnic colleges. The city has a prominent Historical museum and a museum dedicated to the one of the heroes of the World WarII N.I.Kuznetsov.
Following the the monument for the Soviet time hero D.N.Medvedev was removed, and N.I.Kuznetsov monument was transferred to another location within the city. Instead, in order to reflect the controversial history of the region the monuments for "Soldiers died in the honour of Ukraine", and "Soldiers died in military battles" were erected.
