There was a solemn celebration today at the memorial to liquidators on the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, which is located near the main entrance to Chernobyl.

Speaking after a memorial liturgy which was held by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia and Metropolitan Kirill of the UOC MP, Vladimir, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych noted:"Man-made disasters have no borders. A striking example of this accident at Japanese nuclear power plant, Fukushima-1. Countries can not prevent such accidents on their own, and we are grateful to other states that have agreed to allocate funds."

The President also thanked his Russian colleague Dmitry Medvedev, for a 45 million euros, which Russia will provide on financing for the project "Shelter".

"We will do everything for residents who live in areas which are adjacent to stations to do their life more easier - added Yanukovich. This disaster has forced many people to think in new ways and to combine their efforts in helping others in distress... Today I want to say once again that the cherished memory of the liquidators who worked to overcome the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, will live through generations."

At the same time, Russian President Medvedev during a speech at the memorial of the victims in the accident said that humanity must once again realize how much power is nuclear energy.

Medvedev, in particular, said: "Probably no need to abandon nuclear energy, but it is necessary that technical solutions meet the challenges posed by nuclear energy. Since the accident, made ​​some very important standards, but recent tragedies, including Japanese say that we must take extra effort to nuclear power was really peaceful."

He noted that people should prepare a new regulatory framework, "which should operate across all planet."
