President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, inspite of the criticism addressed to Ukrainian authorities, keeps commitment to Ukraine's European integration.
Alexandre Stutzmann, the Chief Diplomatic Adviser to European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, showed the president's position in a phone talk with Kostiantyn Yeliseyev, the leader of Ukraine's mission to the EU, in Brussels on Saturday morning.
"The European Parliament president keeps supporting closer relations between the Ukrainian people and the European Union," he noted.
As it was said, Buzek on February 4 expressed hope that "Ukraine will turn to the correct way."
"Ukraine was the best student in the class of the region two years ago. But now it's not. I am concerned about the worsening of the situation regarding the freedom of speech and mass media. I am anxious about the current trends of using criminal laws to intimidate the opposition politicians. This causes questions about the independence of judicial authorities and the transparency of law supremacy," he added. |
