Japan will not refuse funding of Chernobyl projects.

Japan will continue to fund all Chernobyl projects in Ukraine, despite the disastrous consequences of earthquake.

As said Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine, Tadashi Izawa in an interview with Deutsche Welle.

As you know, Japan is funding in Ukraine and Belarus a number of projects to mitigate the effects of the Chernobyl accident. In addition, Japan has financed development in Ukraine the information and early warning to the population of the nuclear threat, support the territorial community near the Chernobyl zone.

"Our position remains unchanged, we intend to continue to help Ukraine to implement these projects. Cooperation will continue. While Japan has assisted unilaterally. Now I hope that we will share experiences of overcoming the consequences of technological disasters with Ukraine", - said Izawa.

The diplomat also added, that despite the difficult times, which are currently going through his country, Japanese investors will continue projects, which have based in Ukraine.

Among other there is a speech about the financing of the construction of a new terminal in Boryspil airport. Investors from Japan are carefully to the new projects. "At the moment they are looking at them, to be sure in transparency in doing business in Ukraine", - said Izawa.

Japan also does not refuse to make an additional donor contribution to the Chernobyl Shelter Fund to construct the new secure facilities over the destroyed fourth block of Chernobyl NPP, said the vice-president of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Horst Reichenbach. This financial institution is the administrator of the Chernobyl Shelter Fund.

"There is unknown, however, a specific amount that Japan is going to make on the Kiev Conference on Chernobyl in April. But this applies to other countries also.

They analyze the situation after the events in Japan, think and come to concrete decisions a bit later", - said Reichenbach.

At the moment, Japan has made to the Chernobyl Shelter Fund 45.7 million euros. EBRD estimates an additional requirement to complete the construction of a new "sarcophagus" to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant is 740 million euros.
