In his first interview since re-assuming control over Kyiv Zoo, Oleksiy Tolstoukhov reported that his first order of business will be to clean out the desk, take out the garbage and sort out the attraction's financial situation.
Tolstoukhov, the son of Antatoliy Tolstoukhov, the Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers, mentioned 70 percent of the animals at the zoo are too old to procreate and that it is necessary to bring in younger animals.
"No one has done this, and this is why some animals are dying. With the purpose to decrease the mortality rate, we simply have to get a younger collection of animals," Tolstoukhov added, mentioning that he envisions 40 percent of the zoo's population being native Ukrainian with the remaining animals coming from the rest of the world. |
