
Improvements in the Economy of Ukraine Will Be This year, notes US Ambassador to Ukraine
The Ukrainian economy will start deletion of consequences of crisis this year, according to United States Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor.
The diplomat admitted that the Ukrainian leadership will have to make difficult decisions in the economy field.
"The economy of Ukraine will start recovering this year. The Ukrainian leadership will face serious challenges and hard decisions," the diplomat added in his article for the Dzerkalo Tyzhnya weekly newspaper.
Taylor reported that difficult decisions linked with reforms in various spheres, should be made as soon as it possible.
"This European country is surviving difficult times in the political and economic aspects. Difficult decisions can’t wait until president election," he noted.
Kuwait is Interested in Collaborating with Ukraine, Reports Minister
Minister of Kuwait of Commerce and Industry, Ahmad Al-Abdullah mentioned that his country is interested in strengthening collaboration with Ukraine.
According to the cabinet's press service reports, this was proclaimned during a Ukrainian-Kuwaiti business forum entitled "Ukraine 2009: The Best Time for Investment."
According to the statement, Ahmad Al-Abdullah was interest in collaboration in farming, energy and communications, as well as active development of tourism.
Ukrainian Economy Minister Bohdan Danylyshyn met his Kuwaiti colleague during the forum.
According to Danylyshyn, positive trends in relationship between Ukraine and Kuwait will improve the partnership between the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, Danylyshyn invited Al-Abdullah to come to Ukraine.
Ukraine's GDP Will Probably fall, says Yuschenko
President of Ukraine Viktor Yuschenko has admitted that that the fall of Ukraine's GDP in the first quarter of this year may reach 20%.
"GDP fell 13% in the fourth quarter of 2008. In the 1-st quarter a 20% fall is expected," the president reported at the "Power and Business are Partners" forum, which was held in Kyiv on Monday.
According to the National Bank of Ukraine's estimations, the main sector index in the first quarter will be minus 30, Yuschenko said.
The president noted that the GDP's decline might even reach 24%. "In the first quarter it may be 20%-23%," he said. |
