The Verkhovna Rada (Supreme Soviet) of Ukraine assigned an early election of the Kyiv Mayor and the Kyiv City Council.
According to the reports of journalists the Parliament has supported the decree on carrying out an early election of the Kyiv Mayor and the Kyiv City Council. 246 out of 441 legislators, registered in the chamber, voted for this.
The fraction of the Party of Regions refrained from voting.
In line with the decree, the early election of the Kyiv Mayor will be held on May 25 (the last Sunday after the 70-day period since the date when the decree comes into force).
Vitaliy Klitschko, Yuri Lutsenko, Oleksandr Omelchenko and a BYuT representative, are presented as current candidates from the democratic coalition for the Kyiv Mayor post, as of today.
According to the reported information, OU-PSD fraction member Kyrylo Kulikov noted this in an interview with journalists today.
In his opinion, the Block of Yulia Tymoshenko enjoys the dominating position in Kyiv presently. The legislator pointed out that, at the same time, BYuT does not possess any bright representative for the post of Kyiv Mayor, except for Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko, who will hardly run for Kyiv Mayor.
At the same time, according to K.Kulikov, Kyiv citizens mostly support Klitschko, Lutsenko and Omelchenko.
He said he hoped that the democratic coalition will propose a single candidate for the Kyiv election. |
